Hyacinths

Arranged in pews
bells neatly lacquered
rinsed in old rose
lavender
and faded blond

nodding a scent
of handbag interiors
redolent
of Max Factor
and hairpins

the hyacinths
huddle by the automatic door
sniffing in seniority
over the brazen tulips
and tightly coiled rose.
